Abstract: Intuitively, learning may seem self-evident, even ubiquitous. However, what, where and how we learn is often beyond our control; this is particularly true for students in school learning environments. Drawing on research conducted in secondary schools, this talk explores what students perceive authentic learning to be, what factors affect student conceptualisations of success, and what students consider to be authentic motivators when learning.
